One of our Jumbo class Truck Mounted Cherry Pickers was hired in Sheffield recently to assist with mobile telephone upgrade works. We were contacted by our client to provide both the Access Platform and Traffic Management solution to enable safe working at height for engineers. A member of our northern surveying team was deployed to site and subsequently completed a detailed assessment of the proposed work site including accurate measurements. Our Cherry Picker hire team recently deployed a 70m Truck Mounted Platform Hire from our London depot for a client who installs cavity wall insulation on aging buildings. The Truck Mounted Platform was used to span over garden areas and reach all areas on each of the buildings elevations. Our client then pumped the insulation in to the building through key points on the walls. Cavity wall insulation is used to reduce heat loss through a cavity wall by filling the air space with material that inhibits heat transfer. This immobilises the air within the cavity preventing convection, and can substantially reduce space heating costs. With the brick tower located in a public car park, it was essential for our hired HGV Cherry Picker to be protected from moving vehicles and pedestrians. As part of our site survey, Blade Access liaised with the site provider to agree a suitable work area for the Cherry Picker and our clients vehicles/equipment. Cherry Picker Hire fleets are set to get some new additions from manufacturer Niftylift. They have launched two new fully redesigned and updated versions of its popular narrow HR15N and HR17N booms. Both are still 1.5 metres wide but now feature a reduced stowed height of less than two metres. These two Cherry Picker models were originally launched nearly 15 years ago and their stowed heights had crept up to more than 2.1 metres. Although a relatively small reduction, Niftylift says it is very important for specific rental applications such as cherry pickers accessing and working in shopping centres. We were contacted by one of our clients to provide a safe means of access to various points on the Cardiff stadium roof and a 70m Truck Mounted Platform Hire was the answer. Cherry Picker Hire Platform manufacturer JLG will launch a 4×4 hybrid diesel/electric version of its 34ft 340AJ articulated boom next week. The H340AJ offers substantially improved fuel economy over the regular diesel model, with substantially lower emission and noise levels. The new 4×4 boom features four brushless AC electric drive wheel motors powered by eight six volt maintenance free batteries, alongside an 8.9hp Kubota Z482 engine – compared to the 24.8hp Kubota on the pure diesel model. The diesel engine drives a generator which can power the machine directly and/or be used to re-charge the batteries. Or the two can combine for maximum power.
