Power Distribution

Electricity transmission throughout the UK is essential and this can only be achieved via the National Grid overhead lines distribution network.

The only National Grid approved access fleet.
Overhead line work covers inspection, pylon maintenance, upgrades and new build across the National Grid transmission network, and almost all of it is carried out at height.

Access is rarely straightforward. Towers sit on easements and wayleaves across private land, often several hundred metres from the nearest hard standing, behind field gates and on ground that has never been made up. Blade Access supplies truck mounted platform hire with IPAF certified operators for OHL work nationwide, with trackway and ground protection to bridge the gap.

Standard UK transmission towers stand between 45m and 56m. One of our Ruthmann T570HF platforms clears the tallest of them at 57m working height, with 41m of lateral outreach on a 26,000kg chassis. The cage rotates 250 degrees each way and the machine sets up on ground inclined to 5 degrees.
That outreach is what keeps the machine off the easement. Working from the access track or the field edge rather than the tower base cuts the trackway needed, reduces ground damage and shortens the setup. Every platform is specified, tested and approved to National Grid specification, and our operators are experienced working to National Grid site procedures.
